Toxic Shower Curtains

Deadly Chemicals that can cause liver and kidney damage—and even cancer—could be seeping out of your shower curtains and poisoning your home, a study revealed.

Lab tests of vinyl curtains, carried out by the Center for Health, Environment and Justice, found more than one hundred toxins, including some banned from children's toys in California, Washington, and Europe.

“The study found that the familiar 'new shower curtain' smell contains dangerous chemicals,” said the report from the Falls Church, Va., environmental group. The chemicals can cause “eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, loss of coordination, nausea and damage to the liver, kidney and central nervous system. Some . . .can cause cancer.” The group tested five house-brand curtains sold by Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond, K-Mart, Target, and Sears. —New York Post
